I know everyone is reblogging this because of Thor & Loki n stuff, but I’m actually interested in this (and other stuff Marvel has been putting out like Black Panther) as an example of the blurring line on the internet between traditional comics/still illustration, animation, and “motion graphics”. It links back to Scott McCloud’s TED speech about the potential for online space and technology to revolutionise traditional storytelling methods.

Also, I’m kind of coming to a place of peace with this sort of stuff coming out from Marvel and other companies finally cashing in on the ability to make their still-images “move” with programs like Flash and After Effects. Because I look at it and go “OMG this is so cheap to make I hope people don’t think it’s real animation”, then I remember how bad the cheap shows like He Man were in the good-ol-bad-ol-days, and I see this sort of work as another historical by-product of that. Even the cheap-as Flash and 3D animated cartoons on American & other Western networks are still outsourced to Asiatic countries these days for the cleanup & inbetweens (even our beloved Adventure Time) so if some junior at the studio gets to keep her job because these are being made in-house, so be it.

Just because something isn’t animated as perfectly as a Gobelins’ short or the latest Winnie The Pooh movie, doesn’t make it a bad animation. And sometimes even I need a reminder of that.

I’m so sick of people thinking this way about Canada.

It’s great how their historical background consists of hetalia references and they claim to be like Canada yet won’t do any of their own research on the actual country. It’s one thing to be misinformed but willfully ignorant?

As a character, Matthew is so much more than “scared and useless” - if this person actually believed that, WHY ON EARTH DO THEY LIKE HIM?

THIS. Guys, seriously, Canada has an amazing military history consisting both of where he intervenes and where he doesn’t. Canada is known for multilateralism and peacekeeping (which is awesome) but when he actually judges something worth going to war over he performs admirably.

[Excuse me if the use of “He” here is inappropriate as the line between talking about the character and the country often gets blurred in fandom discussion I’m not quite sure what is considered appropriate…]
